Is the Presidents Cup over already?

Halfway point for the Cup, Shag Bag shenanigans

CBS

Happy Saturday and welcome to The Shag Bag. I'm officiating a wedding today. No idea what I'm doing on that end but for that reason today's edition is a little shorter. I'll be sleeping in tomorrow if you know what I'm sayin.

Here’s what we have on deck:

  • Presidents Cup halfway

  • Shag Bag

  • Meme

Let’s get to it.

PRESIDENTS CUP

Jared Tilton

28 - 3?

Max Homa canned a clutch 12-footer on the group's 18th hole yesterday to take the match and allow the US to have full command of the Presidents Cup at the halfway mark, leading 8-2.

There were 3 tight matches on Friday, but it's mostly been a shellacking to this point. Midway through play yesterday the entire International Team had made just 4 birdie, while Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas had made 5 themselves.

The International team's point totals have come from a full match win on Thursday (shoutout Tom Kim), and two tied matches on Friday. They just don't have the firepower this year. This tweet from Thursday epitomizes the sate of play thus far ⬇️

To be fair, it's not over yet. Crazy comebacks happen and this would certainly fit the bill. Although, I have a feeling we'll be talking about the lack of competition in this Cup come Monday.

The remaining format is as follows:

  • Saturday: Eight matches total. Four alternate shot matches in the morning, and four best-ball matches in the afternoon

  • Sunday: 12 singles matches

Alternate shot is already underway this morning, catch up on the whats happening here. The Int'l team will need some magic.

The afternoon groupings are TBD.

SHAG BAG

  • Whats the most frustrating thing about being a golfer? We're the worst high fivers on the planet. Good to know the pros struggle too.

  • President George W Bush and President Clinton made an appearance at the Cup on Friday. Apparently this dap from Bush and Kisner says they're, bros?

  • Sam Harrop, a pianist from the UK, was invited out to the Cup to help with tee introductions. He is also known to make videos about the current golf climate or specific players. Here's one he made for Team USA.

  • Thomas Pieters got a mulligan this week in a DP Tour event. No seriously. Someone coughed in his swing, he tried to stop but couldn't. Officials let him replace and hit again. Don't get any ideas out there.

MEME OF THE DAY

IYKYK 💀

Catch ya'll Monday! Cheers.
